St. Georges School
I had the privileged opportunity to work with St. George’s School. St. Georges is a amazing private school for boys in Vancouver, BC that has been operating since 1930. It’s set close to downtown; the junior school is in a beautiful old stone building and the senior school is in a much more modern building. Both campuses are outfitted with all the latest facilities, making it a wonderful school for boys and young men to grow up in. I have to admit… I was quite jealous of the quality of education they’re receiving.
My task was to work with the St. Georges Communications team to create new imagery to add to their already wonderful portfolio of work. We did a mix of portraits of boys and staff on white, as well as candid photos of the boys in the school. It was a ‘move fast and shoot lots’ type of deal, where I would only have a few minutes with the staff and I needed to minimize my interference with the students in class as much as possible. Being prepared, understanding exposure, knowing lighting ahead of time and being able to make people comfortable quickly, allowed me to do this effectively. About half of the white background shots in this post were shot in a 5ft wide hallway… bet you can’t tell which!
They’ll be using the images in promotional materials in print and online. I’m really looking forward to seeing the work in use around Vancouver.
